Tips for International Students moving to Porto
Porto provides a low cost of living, when compared to other cities part of the European Community.
You can find affordable prices for private rents/properties to living. These include sharing apartments with other students; a room in "family homes"; or temporary accommodation such as hostels.
In order to avoid paying high fees for withdrawals from your international accounts, we recommend for students to open a bank account in Portugal because international credit cards are not always accepted in some places.
Open a bank account is quite simple. Just go to the bank you want to present your passport or international identity card, an address in Portugal and a Portuguese tax number (NIF), which can be obtained by going to the closest FINANÇAS (government offices) where you will deal with everything related to taxes (including getting your NIF).
